New comics distribution system in the UK
Shift Publishing, 77 Publishing, Time Bomb Comics and Markosia have joined Comic Book UK, which launched in March to build the UK into a “global comics superpower”.Well good luck on that. For all we know, they might do a better job building up publishing and distribution than some businesses in the USA have to date. But, they'll also have to prove they can turn out stories with merit, because only that way will they be able to prove successful, both in artistic and business terms.
The publishers join the six founding members: DC Thomson, Rebellion Entertainment, Avery Hill Publishing, The Phoenix Comic, B7 Media and Fable. [...]
[...] Over the coming months they will work together to develop proposals to support growth in the UK comics industry. These will include recommendations for targeted tax relief to de-risk investment in new comic titles; evidence of the potential returns on investing in comic enterprises; and programmes to develop new generations of industry-ready creative talent.
